President-elect Donald Trump's decision to announce U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) as the new head of the Department of Justice (DOJ) has sent the Swamp creatures in Washington, D.C. panicking. The real estate mogul made the announcement Wednesday, Nov. 13, on his Truth Social platform. Trump remarked that Gaetz would "end weaponized government, protect our borders, dismantle criminal organizations and restore Americans' badly-shattered faith and confidence in the Justice Department" if the Florida congressman is confirmed as the next U.S. attorney general. (Related: Rep. Gaetz leading charge to dismantle illegal government mass surveillance scheme.) House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) told reporters Wednesday evening that Gaetz offered his resignation from the House of Representatives in a letter. However, it has not yet gone into effect as it has not been announced on the House floor. "I think out of deference to us, [Gaetz] issued his resignation letter effective immediately," said the speaker. "That caught us by surprise a little bit, but I asked him what the reasoning was. He said, 'Well, you can't have too many absences.'" According to NBC News, a special election will be held to fill Gaetz's now-vacant seat. "Under Florida state law, there's about an eight-week period to select and fill a vacant seat," Johnson remarked. The mainstream media outlet continued that Gaetz's selection came as a surprise to many in the DOJ and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) under it. One senior FBI official said they hoped "three or four senators" wouldn't confirm him. DOJ officials called Trump's choice "insane," arguing that the Florida congressman was the least-qualified nominee in the history of the department. One senior DOJ official called the idea of Gaetz becoming U.S. attorney general "laughable," adding that he "shouldn't be confirmable."

InfoWars reported that some lawmakers from both the Republican and Democratic parties have expressed disappointment over Trump's choice to lead the DOJ. U.S. Rep. and now U.S. Senator-elect Adam Schiff (D-CA) sounded off against the GOP congressman. Schiff is notable for being the main figure pushing the now-debunked lie that Trump colluded with Russia to win the 2016 election. The Democrat wrote: "First, the Supreme Court granted a president immunity for weaponizing the Justice Department? Now Trump wants to appoint Gaetz as [attorney general]?" "Confirming him would mean affirming the worst potential abuses of [the] DOJ. He must be rejected by the Senate." U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) called Gaetz's nomination as a "red alert moment for American democracy." Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AL) described Gaetz as "not a serious candidate" for the position he was named to. Even the mainstream media is reacting to the news of Gaetz's appointment terribly. "The general vibe on [Capitol Hill] right now is WTF," MSNBC correspondent Julie Tserkin reported. "People are shocked at the news of Gaetz especially." "I cannot imagine why someone would vote to confirm Gaetz for host at Red Lobster, never mind attorney general of the United States," wrote Jonah Goldberg of The Dispatch. Former Fox News host Geraldo Rivera, who is now with NewsNation, called the Florida congressman a "douche" and described him as a "bad" choice to lead the DOJ. "The Deep State Democrats, RINO Republicans and legacy media figures are melting down over the prospect of Gaetz running the Justice Department given his past advocacy for dismantling the weaponization of government," InfoWars noted. "When the DC elite are spiraling into a complete meltdown, that's a signal Gaetz is probably the perfect individual to bring accountability to those who weaponized the justice system."
