Trump's naming of "unapologetic Zionist" Mike Huckabee as ambassador to Israel could lead to full annexation of the West Bank

President-elect Donald Trump has picked former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee as his appointee to be the United States Ambassador to Israel, a decision that is expected to facilitate more illegal Israeli settlement of the occupied Palestinian West Bank and eventually its full annexation. Huckabee served as governor of Arkansas for nearly 11 years before launching two unsuccessful campaigns to be the Republican Party's presidential nominee, first in 2008 and then again in 2016. He has described himself as an "unapologetic, unreformed Zionist" and has bragged about visiting Israel more than 100 times in his life. (Related: Michael Yon warns of a ZIONIST TAKEOVER in Trump's second administration.) "Mike has been a great public servant, governor and leader in faith for many years. He loves Israel, and the people of Israel, and likewise, the people of Israel love him," said Trump in his statement. "Mike will work tirelessly to bring about peace in the Middle East." Yossi Mekelberg of the think tank the Chatham House warned that Huckabee's appointment demonstrates that the Trump administration may be taking an approach to Israel that is "very hawkish" and very supporting of Israel's religious extremists.

Huckabee appointment excites Israeli extremists who want to annex the West Bank

The extremist government of Israel in its current form is very pleased with Huckabee's appointment because the former governor supports the West Bank's unilateral annexation into Israel. "This will be a voice in the debate in the State Department and then the national security team – a strong voice, a respected voice with real power and access for annexation. It's a thumb on the scale," said Jeremy Ben-Ami, president of J Street, a liberal lobbying organization that supports a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict and is opposed to Israeli settlement of the West Bank. Back in 2017, during a visit to illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank, Huckabee told reporters: "There is no such thing as a West Bank. It's Judea and Samaria–" referring to the territory's biblical name. "There's no such thing as a settlement. They're communities, they're neighborhoods, they're cities. There's no such thing as an occupation." More recently, when asked whether there was a chance a second Trump White House could support Israel's annexation of the West Bank, Huckabee responded: "Of course." "I won't make the policy. I will carry out the policy of the president," he added. "But he has already demonstrated in his first term that there's never been an American president that has been more helpful in securing an understanding of the sovereignty of Israel." Most of the West Bank has been administered by Israel since 1967. In the nearly six decades since, it has gradually expanded Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which are considered illegal under international law. And despite signing multiple peace agreements with Palestinians, Israel has refused to disengage from the West Bank. Currently, around half a million Israelis live in illegal settlements in the West Bank – and their numbers are expected to keep growing, especially since several members of Israel's extremist government, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have pledged to pursue West Bank annexation. Watch this clip of Mike Huckabee speaking back in 2017 at an illegal Israeli settlement in the West Bank claiming that the occupied region is a "property" that Israel "already owns."
