The odds were stacked against Donald Trump in his latest bid for the presidency, with two failed assassination attempts, multiple attempts to use lawfare to keep him out of office, and no shortage of heavy media bias portraying him in the most negative light possible. Yet somehow, he has managed to overcome all of this and win the election in a move that some are calling the greatest comeback of all time. In 130 years, not a single president has won a second term following a re-election loss. The last one who did manage such a feat was Grover Cleveland, who also saw his first loss as a result of vote fraud. However, compared to 2020, Trump has made significant gains among black and Latino voters as people become increasingly disillusioned with the Biden-Harris administration and frustrated by how much worse off they are now, under their leadership. Not long after being projected the winner of the election, admiration for Trump's comeback started pouring in. One of the first world leaders to congratulate him was Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who knows a thing or two about political comebacks as well. And while he’s probably hoping that Trump will support his war in Gaza, his characterization of Trump’s victory as “history’s greatest comeback” was a common sentiment in the hours after the election, even among those who don’t depend on his support for their survival. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban wrote on X: "The biggest comeback in US political history! Congratulations to President @realDonaldTrump on his enormous win. A much needed victory for the World!" “His utter refusal to be bent or broken by his enemies and his critics and his determination to redeem himself by recapturing the office he lost has no parallel that I can think of — not in American history, anyway. And he did it fair and square,” columnist John Podhoretz wrote of the victory in the New York Post. Even liberal media outlets had to acknowledge Trump’s feat, with a Washington Post headline announcing “Trump’s win is his greatest resurrection in a career of comebacks” and a BBC article entitled “How Trump pulled off an incredible comeback” – although the content of these pieces was predictably full of jabs.

Fed-up Americans voted for change

While Trump’s comeback may indeed be impressive, it’s really not that surprising when you consider how poorly Democrats have been running the country. Liberal-run cities are overrun with violent crime, while open border policies have resulted in an influx of immigrants that have caused multiple problems for our nation’s security, economy, and the safety of citizens. Those are just some of the issues voters will have considered when they went to the polls. Let's not forget the Department of Homeland Security’s efforts to spy on Americans and censor our speech, especially when it goes against the preferred government narrative. The Biden-Harris administration has also been botching international relations, and World War III now seems more likely than ever as a result. But while it’s not surprising that Americans favor Trump for the presidency, it is surprising that Democrats have not managed to successfully manipulate the vote in a way that would have made Harris the clear winner. The next few days, weeks and months will certainly bring some contention and insinuations, however. Although Trump wasn’t a perfect president the first time around, he is much better positioned than Biden to help turn the country around. One of his first actions will likely be to secure our borders, which will undoubtedly earn him accusations of being racist. He won’t be able to fix everything, but with the Senate now under Republican control and the House potentially headed in that direction as well, many Americans will be hoping our country will start heading down the right path soon.
