Former ICE Director Tom Homan: Trump's mass deportation plan won't separate families, since WHOLE FAMILIES of illegals will be deported together

Former President Donald Trump's mass deportation plan won't involve the separation of families. This was according to Tom Homan, who served as acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director during the Trump administration. Homan argued that Trump's mass deportation plan could be carried out humanely without the harsh family separation policies seen in the past. "Of course, there is a way to avoid families being separated," Homan told Cecilia Vega of CBS News during his "60 Minutes" appearance on Sunday, Oct. 27. "Families can be deported together." The former ICE director was then asked why children should leave the country where they were born and raised. He responded: "Because their [parents] absolutely entered the country illegally, had a child knowing [they were] in the country illegally. So [they] created that crisis." Homan also debunked accounts that separating families at the border was his idea "Not true. I didn't write the memorandum to separate families," he told Vega. "I signed the memo. Why'd I sign the memo? I was hoping to save lives. While you and I are talking right now, a child's going to die in the border. So we thought, 'Maybe if we prosecute people, they'll stop coming.'" Homan stressed that the plan would prioritize public safety and national security threats, allowing ICE and federal authorities to focus on individuals with deportation orders already issued by judges. When asked about costs, he said the need for national security and law enforcement justified the expense. It's not going to be building concentration camps. I've read it all. It's ridiculous."

Miller: National Guard could be tapped to aid in deportations

America First Legal founder Stephen Miller, a former Trump advisor, expounded on the logistics of the mass deportation plan. He highlighted a method that involves collaboration between federal and state authorities, noting that the National Guard could be deployed to assist in carrying out deportations. "You grab illegal immigrants and then you move them to the staging ground," Miller stated. "That's where the planes are waiting for federal enforcement to then move those illegals home." Critics have raised concerns about the mass deportation plan's potential costs and humanitarian impact. However, both Homan and Miller claim that such a plan would provide a strategic solution to address immigration issues. Trump himself has remarked that Homan would be joining him in his second administration. The former ICE director said he doesn't know of "any formal policy where they're talking about family separations" when asked if the family separation policy would be reinstituted, though he noted that such a policy "needs to be considered." But according to CBS News, bringing back the family separation policy would be difficult – given that the federal government under President Joe Biden and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) reached a settlement late last year. Under the ACLU settlement, the federal government is prohibited from separating migrant families at the border for the next eight years if the sole purpose is to prosecute the parents for entering the country illegally.
