In a display of homage for Israel, Rep. Brian Mast (R-Fla.) wore his Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) uniform on Capitol Hill on Friday to contrast his position with the so-called "Global Day of Jihad," which reportedly saw a knife-wielding man stab an Israeli embassy worker in Beijing. Mast bragged that he is "the only member" of Congress "to serve with both the United States Army and the Israel Defense Forces." As such, Mast says he "will always stand with Israel" no matter what it does. When asked why he chose to gear up in Israeli military fatigues, Mast spoke of Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) who "has her flag," referring to the Palestinian flag, while he put on "my uniform." (Related: Check out what Israeli Rabbi Chaim Richman thinks of Christians, whom he says "shouldn't be worshipping one Jew," referring to Jesus Christ the Messiah, but should instead be worshipping "all of us," referring to the Jewish people.)

They're bringing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to the U.S. whether we like it or not

It does not appear as though Mast is a dual citizen with Israel like many other U.S. politicians are – Mast is not even Jewish, apparently – but he is a vehement supporter of the political state, having chosen of his own accord to volunteer in the IDF back in his 30s. Even so, Mast has decided to pick a side, as has Tlaib and others, as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is brought to the U.S. whether Americans want it or not. The U.S. has many problems of its own to deal with, but Congress is more concerned about picking sides in a Middle Eastern fight that, yet again, is technically none of our business. One of the biggest financial supporters to Mast's 2015-16 election campaign was Duty Free Americas, owned by the pro-Israel Falic family. The Falic family has donated at least $5.6 million to Israeli settler organizations in the West Bank over the past decade, and has "given more money than any other donor to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu," according to reports. The year 2015 when Mast ran for Congress is the very same year that he decided to volunteer for the IDF – coincidence, or is this why he won his seat in the first place? "[Mast's] a vocal supporter of Israel and Israelis, and he believes his volunteer stint with the IDF proves that he not only talks the pro-Israel talk, but also walks the walk," the Times of Israel reported. "In Mast's view, the U.S. and its allies should be ready to exercise a military option against Iran if even the tiniest infraction of the [Iran nuclear deal] comes to light." In his own words, Mast has said that "if we discover one gram more of fissile material than is allowed," referring to Iran, then "the U.S. and its allies should destroy Iran's entire nuclear infrastructure." "Doesn't serving in a foreign army disqualify you from serving in the U.S. military or holding political office in the U.S.?" one commenter on a story about all this rightly asked.
