  • On Day 11 of "Beyond The Diagnosis," Jonathan Otto talked about the precise upper cervical adjustment to the atlas bone that triggers an immediate, measurable spike in secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA).
  • Dr. Jennifer Taylor explained that the nervous system controls the immune system and structural misalignment of the atlas can create interference that short-circuits the brain's ability to direct immune function effectively.
  • Dr. Michael Karlfeldt described the immune system as a police force that becomes exhausted by chronic stress, unresolved infections, nutrient depletion, toxic exposure and poor digestion, creating an environment where cancer can thrive.
  • Taylor emphasized that chiropractic is not a treatment for disease but is meant to create an environment where the body can function at its best, since we are not programmed to self-combust or get chronic illness.
  • The experts concluded that the body is designed to heal itself when obstacles are removed and focusing on the structural support of the nervous system ensures no impedance of nerves leading to all organs and glands.
On Day 11 of "Beyond The Diagnosis," aired on May 19, host Jonathan Otto challenged everything we thought we knew about immunity, with a growing body of research pointing to an unlikely command center for the body's cancer-fighting abilities: the atlas bone at the very top of your spine. While conventional wisdom has long held that immunity is boosted by vitamins, vaccines or supplements, Dr. Jennifer Taylor presents a radically different perspective, one that suggests your body's ability to fight disease may be physically blocked by a misalignment you don't even know you have. "When it comes to immune function, first of all, as I say all the time, the nervous system controls the immune system," Taylor explained. "If you don't have a healthy nervous system, your immune system cannot be healthy either." A landmark 2022 study published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine found that a precise upper cervical adjustment, specifically to the atlas bone, triggered an immediate, measurable spike in secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA), a key antibody in the immune system's first line of defense. Taylor detailed the groundbreaking research conducted by her colleagues and mentors: "They took salivary IgA (sIgA), to sample, from a patient before their adjustment. Then what they did was they took it after their adjustment and there was immediate rise in sIgA. They demonstrated this over and over again." This is not subtle improvement. The study showed that a simple structural correction could produce an instant chemical response in the body's immune defenses. "It actually showed that there was a chemical, an immune modulator, in the body that is completely affected by making sure the atlas is in alignment. That really was pretty profound," Taylor said. The nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord, acts as the body's master controller. When the atlas bone at the top of the spine is misaligned, it can create structural interference that short-circuits the brain's ability to direct the immune system effectively. This interference may allow cancer and autoimmune diseases to flourish unchecked. As Taylor explained, "Chiropractic is not a treatment for any particular disease, illness. It's meant to create an environment that the body can function at its best. We're not programmed to self-combust; we're not programmed to get diseased and have chronic illness, autoimmune issues; we're not programmed to do that." Her colleague Dr. Michael Karlfeldt elaborated on the immune system's vulnerability, describing it as a police force that can become overwhelmed. "If you are not feeding your body with the appropriate nutrients, then the immune cells are then going to get exhausted," Dr. Karlfeldt explained. "If you're dealing with infections that have not fully been addressed, because you are living in stress, or you're dealing with trauma, or you're eating toxic food... then these different infections are going to be there and continually wear out the energy of the immune system." The experts said immune breakdown rarely happens overnight. It erodes through chronic stress, unresolved infections, nutrient depletion, toxic exposure, poor digestion and a nervous system stuck in fight-or-flight mode. Karlfeldt described the cascade: "When we're in that fight or flight mode, we are then accumulating toxic waste, because we're not detoxifying, and the nutritional content in tissue is decreasing, because we are not digesting and we're not absorbing." This fatigue creates the perfect environment for cancer to thrive. "A strong and effective immune system, this does not take place when it's able to modulate itself," Karlfeldt warned. "So it is so important to make sure that you create an environment that is beneficial for your immune system to do the best possible job."

A new understanding of self-healing

Taylor emphasized that the problem isn't just biological but structural. "There are structural things that can be impeding how your immune system functions and now we have a study that backs that up," she said, noting that previously she was actually banned from saying that chiropractic care could boost immunity. The message from these experts is clear: the body is designed to heal itself, if we remove the obstacles in its way. "The information highway is the nervous system," Taylor stated. "Focusing on that, the structural support of the nervous system making sure that there is no impedance of those nerves that lead to all your organs and glands; make sure that the brain is functioning properly." For patients diagnosed with cancer, this represents an opportunity rather than a death sentence. As noted by BrightU.AI's Enoch, cancer takes years to develop and the diagnosis can be a wake-up call to change lifestyle, address structural issues and restore the nervous system to proper function. Taylor summed up the hope: "When you take care of the system that controls everything, I mean, it's a master computer, you're going to have a healthier body and a healthier experience in life."
