To quash political dissent and brainwash the public into accepting left wing narratives, the Biden regime launched a formidable arsenal of "misinformation" grants, awarding over 600 grants totaling more than $1.4 billion to various organizations. While the stated goal is to protect public health and democracy, critics argue that these initiatives often serve to stifle legitimate debate and censor alternative viewpoints, particularly in areas like nutrition, herbal medicine, and public health.

The rise of government-funded anti-misinformation programs

The Free Press, a non-profit organization dedicated to media reform, has uncovered a staggering number of grants awarded by the federal government to combat misinformation. Since 2017, the government has awarded about 800 grants, with the Biden administration responsible for the lion's share. These grants have been distributed to a wide array of organizations, from academic institutions to non-profits, each tasked with identifying and countering what they deem as misinformation. One of the most significant grants, a 979 million award to military contractor Peraton, was given by the Department of Defense to help the U.S. Central Command "countermisinformation." This grant alone makes the Defense Department the largest funder of misinformation grants from 2016 to 2024. The second−largest funder, USAID, has contributed 149 million.

The ethical and practical implications

The ethical implications of these grants are profound. Many of the organizations receiving funding, such as the Poynter Institute's International Fact-Checking Network and the Center for Countering Digital Hate, have been caught spreading their own brand of bias, enabled by systemic, federally-sponsored censorship. For instance, the Poynter Institute, which received a $4 million grant from Facebook, has been criticized for not adhering strictly to scientific methods and for censoring health-saving information, such as low-cost natural remedies and self-administered treatments. The Center for Countering Digital Hate, originally focused on combating anti-Semitism and misogyny, has expanded its scope to include "anti-vaxx misinformation," climate change, elections, and promoting abortion. This expansion has led to the silencing of dissenting voices, as seen in the 2021 "Disinformation Dozen" report, which aimed to discredit doctors and practitioners who spoke against the mainstream narrative.

Historical context and the erosion of free speech

The history of government-funded misinformation campaigns is not new. During World War II, the U.S. government used propaganda to shape public opinion and support the war effort. However, the current scale and sophistication of these initiatives are unprecedented. The comparison of misinformation to a "virus" that needs to be "inoculated against" is a troubling metaphor that implies a one-sided approach to information. The World Health Organization's Infodemic Response Initiative, for example, uses AI and social listening tools to detect and manage misinformation. While this might seem like a proactive approach, it raises concerns about surveillance and the curtailment of free expression. The initiative's focus on pharmaceutical-based medical interventions over natural and holistic approaches further narrows the scope of public health discourse.

The role of Big Tech and Big Pharma

The involvement of big tech companies like Facebook, Google, and Twitter in these initiatives is particularly concerning. These companies have a vested interest in shaping public opinion to align with their business models. The Trusted News Initiative, founded by the BBC and including tech giants like Google and Facebook, works to "build audience trust" and address challenges related to misinformation. However, this often leads to biased reporting, anti-competitive practices, and the suppression of dissenting voices. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Rumor Control initiative, which provides alternative narratives on topics like COVID-19, sunscreen, and dietary supplements, tends to offer a single perspective while suppressing opposing viewpoints. The revolving door between the FDA and Big Food and Big Pharma means that biases are rampant, and claims about natural products that pose a threat are often deemed misinformation regardless of the quality of science or evidence. The Biden regime's anti-misinformation initiatives have significant ethical and practical implications. The silencing of dissenting voices and the censorship of alternative viewpoints, particularly in areas like nutrition and herbal medicine, undermine the principles of free speech and scientific inquiry. As we navigate this critical landscape, where we were force-fed lies about a pandemic's origins, the safety and efficacy of new vaccine technologies, lockdowns, and other totalitarian measures, it is crucial to ask: Are these initiatives truly protecting the public, or are they serving to stifle debate and censor truth? "Silencing dissent and censoring alternative viewpoints is not the path to a healthier, more informed society," said Andrew Lowenthal, director of liber-net. "We need a more balanced and transparent approach to information that respects the diversity of scientific and public opinion." Sources include: Racket.news FreePress.com TwitterFiles.substack.com
