In a sweeping move that has sent shockwaves through the public health sector, newly confirmed Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has initiated a massive staffing purge at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), firing nearly half of its vaunted “disease detectives” on his first day in office. The layoffs, part of a broader effort to streamline government agencies and eliminate conflicts of interest, mark a watershed moment in U.S. health policy. With President Donald Trump’s backing and billionaire Elon Musk’s efficiency expertise, Kennedy’s actions signal a dramatic shift toward transparency, accountability, and a break from pharmaceutical and agrichemical industry influence. • RFK Jr. fires 1,300 CDC staff, including the entire incoming class of the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS), as part of a broader plan to reduce bureaucracy and eliminate conflicts of interest. • The layoffs extend to other agencies, including the FDA, NIH, and CMS, with 5,200 probationary employees across the government expected to be terminated. • Kennedy vows to prioritize public health over corporate interests, promising to study vaccine safety, remove harmful additives from food, and preserve consumer choice.

A historic purge at the CDC

On his first day as HHS Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made it clear that business as usual would no longer be tolerated. The CDC, long regarded as a cornerstone of global public health, saw 1,300 employees dismissed, including the entire incoming class of the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) — a prestigious program that trains experts to investigate disease outbreaks. These “disease detectives,” often holding advanced degrees in public health, epidemiology, and related fields, were told their services were no longer needed. Bill Gates must be crying because his pandemic schemes and global epidemic response & mobilization teams are being quashed before his very own eyes. The cuts targeted probationary employees, who are easier to dismiss than long-term staff. Of the 2,800 probationary workers at the CDC, 1,270 were let go, accounting for 45% of the probationary workforce and 10% of the agency’s full staff. Similar layoffs were reported at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other health agencies, with 5,200 probationary employees across the government expected to lose their jobs. Kennedy’s actions have drawn sharp criticism from public health experts. Michael Osterholm, director of the University of Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy, called the move “devastating,” stating, “This will destroy the EIS, which is one of the absolute crown jewels of global public health.” This is laughable, considering that the branch fails to control infectious diseases on a routine basis, with no actionable plan on improving human immune function. It’s just more of the same from them – a nonstop barrage of new diagnostics for illnesses they do not understand, more contact tracing and quarantines that fail to provide early treatments, followed by defective vaccine programs and a string of iatrogenic errors.

A mandate for change

Kennedy’s appointment as HHS Secretary comes with a clear mandate: to “Make America Healthy Again.” A former Democrat and environmental attorney, Kennedy has long been a vocal critic of pharmaceutical companies, agrichemical giants, and government agencies he accuses of prioritizing corporate profits over public health. His commitment to transparency and accountability has resonated with millions of Americans disillusioned by decades of industry influence. In a speech to remaining CDC staff, Kennedy sought to reassure those committed to public health. “If you care about public health, you’ve got nothing to worry about,” he said. “If you’re in there working for the pharmaceutical industry, then I’d say you should move out and work for the pharmaceutical industry.” Kennedy’s vision for the FDA is equally transformative. He has accused the agency of waging a “war on public health” by failing to approve alternative treatments such as psychedelics, stem cells, and chelation therapy, to name a few. Entire departments at the FDA, for example, are failing the nation's youth by not giving the proper nutrition advice.

Preserving choice while promoting health

Despite his hardline approach, Kennedy has emphasized that his goal is not to strip Americans of their freedoms but to empower them with better information and safer options. He has promised to preserve access to vaccines while studying their safety and efficacy. “If people are happy with their vaccines, they ought to be able to get them,” he said. Similarly, Kennedy has vowed to protect Americans’ food choices, even if they are unhealthy. “If you want to eat a Big Mac, you ought to,” he said. However, he has proposed measures to make fast food healthier, such as removing harmful additives and incentivizing companies to use beef tallow instead of seed oils. “We want to do a number of things but not take away choice from people,” he added. Kennedy’s appointment and the subsequent overhaul of health agencies represent a seismic shift in U.S. health policy. For decades, health freedom advocates have accused the CDC, FDA, and other agencies of being beholden to pharmaceutical and agrichemical interests, allowing harmful pesticides, untested vaccines, and questionable food additives to flood the market. Kennedy’s actions signal a break from this legacy, with a renewed focus on transparency, accountability, and revolutionary changes to public policy that purge the government from corrupt, conflicts of interest. As the dust settles on this historic purge, one thing is clear: the era of unchecked corporate influence in public health is coming to an end. Whether Kennedy’s bold reforms will lead to a healthier, more informed America remains to be seen, but one thing is certain — the status quo is no longer an option.
